An individual who laced candy with tranquilliser and gave them to youngsters at a summer camp in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two children who were nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and an older person fell ill at the location in July.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
Yet, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.
The accused was remanded in custody prior to a additional proceeding on late November.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She explained his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a summer camp which he managed.
The defendant engaged in a "treat game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor said, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and request they to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She told the court Ruben had engaged in this activity with the boys "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She said Ruben had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had worries in recently.
The prosecutor stated further: "In the summer" his family member had worries about the situation, justifiably.
"They decided to have a look in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor said objects including baby oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were found, and his stepchild contacted the police about his concerns.
She said Ruben proceeded to play the "sweet game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that time," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the situation.
The prosecutor stated the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the family member called the authorities a second time.
She stated Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
